Questions about rates

Asked before almost every first invoice

Why is the hourly rate lower on a bundle or a retainer?

Because planned hours are cheaper for us to deliver than a call on Tuesday afternoon that has to be fitted in. A bundle lets us schedule; a retainer lets one engineer learn your estate once instead of every time. We pass that on.

What happens to hours we do not use?

Bundle hours stay valid for twelve months. Retainer hours roll over one month, so a quiet month is not wasted and a busy one is covered. Hours beyond the retainer are invoiced at the bundle rate.

Can we start hourly and switch to a retainer later?

Yes, and most customers do exactly that after the first job. Hours already paid for at the hourly rate are not credited, but the retainer starts on the first of the next month with no set-up fee.

Is the intro call really free?

Yes. The 20-minute intro call and the 45-minute technical deep-dive are free and without obligation. The first invoiced hour is the first hour of actual work on your environment, agreed in writing beforehand.

Do you charge for a written report?

No. A short written summary after every job and the monthly retainer report are part of the hours, not extra. Documentation is how the next person, or the next DBA, picks up where we left off.

Ask the DBA what it would take.

A free 20-minute call with the engineer who does the work. You leave with an estimate in hours, not a brochure.
